Recovery coaching in the valley and the hills.
Recovery coaching is one of the supports that works genuinely well at a distance, which matters here more than almost anywhere else we work. A weekly video check-in that actually happens beats a fortnightly visit that the weather, the road or your energy cancels.
That is not a downgrade. Coaching is a working relationship — building routine, keeping track of what helps, planning the next step, staying connected to your other supports. Most of that travels down a phone line intact. We hold in-person sessions too, and we plan which is which with you rather than defaulting to whichever is cheaper.
Winter in the hills is its own factor. Short days, long stretches indoors and roads you would rather not drive make the months between May and August harder for a lot of people. Coaching here plans for that season before it arrives instead of reacting once it has.
Small towns cut both ways for mental health. Being known can be steadying, and it can also mean you would rather nobody saw your car outside a particular building. Our coaches respect that: what you share with your support team stays with your support team, and we are happy to meet somewhere that suits you.
Isolation here is often practical rather than social. When the nearest group, class or appointment is a forty-minute drive, the barrier is the drive. Coaching works on that concretely — what is realistic to get to, what is worth the trip, and what can be built closer to home.
Self-managed and plan-managed plans welcome.
Good to know
Can recovery coaching be done entirely by video?
It can, and for some people in the valley that is the arrangement that actually sustains. We would usually suggest a mix, with in-person sessions when they add something, but the shape is yours to choose.
Do your coaches have lived experience?
Psychosocial recovery coaching draws on lived experience of mental health challenges alongside training. What that means in practice is a conversation that starts from how your week is actually going rather than from a diagnosis.
What happens on bushfire risk days?
Safety first. We follow emergency-services guidance, stay in contact, and move to phone or video when travel is not safe. What happens on those days is written into your support plan rather than improvised.
