Community access across South East Melbourne.
Community participation support is for the gap between wanting to get out and actually getting out. Sometimes the barrier is transport, sometimes it is anxiety, and often it is both feeding each other.
Across the growth corridor the transport half is real. In the newer estates buses are infrequent and rarely aligned with when a class, a group or a shift actually runs, so without a car a lot of what is nominally nearby is effectively out of reach.
So the work is concrete: getting there, being alongside while it stops feeling like a big deal, and stepping back as it stops needing us. The measure of this support working is needing less of it.
There is a lot within reach once transport is solved — Fountain Gate and Dandenong for the practical trips, neighbourhood houses, libraries, sport, TAFE and volunteering across Casey and Cardinia.
Greater Dandenong and Springvale are among the most culturally diverse places in Australia. If community for you means a group in your own language or faith, that is a legitimate goal and worth saying out loud at intake.
Self-managed and plan-managed plans welcome.
Good to know
Can a worker drive me?
Where your plan supports it and the arrangement is set up properly, yes. In the newer estates this is often what makes the rest possible.
What if I do not know what I want to do yet?
That is a normal starting point. The early work is often trying things without committing to them and noticing what you did not dread.
Can you support me to volunteer or study?
Yes. Getting to a course, a placement or a volunteer shift consistently is exactly what this support is for.
